Realization plan

GrainUp has model character within the funding program "Innovationsförderung". This means that the research is of interest not only for individual industry partners. Themes and objectives are relevant for a large number of companies in the food sector (plant breeders, grain and feed industry, farmers), so that the research results have to be disseminated widely and rapidly. This is accompanied with the self-understanding of the research institutions, which make research outcomes generated by public funds widely accessible through publications and thus, ultimately, allow versatile recovery. The results thus serve to support the international competitiveness of German agriculture and contribute to the demand for increasing sustainability of agricultural production.

Key findings of the project, in particular estimation and in vitro methods, will be available not until the end of the funding period because they require the availability of all animal data. Nevertheless, intermediate data will be gained continuously that will be provided to practice as individual data or cereal and species-specific. The use of results is thus possible to a considerable extent even before completion of the project. The ongoing supply of the results into the database of the DLG allows the use of intermediate or partial results during the project period. The close involvement of the DLG-working group Feed and Feeding as the crucial interface between science, advice and industry guarantees a constant transfer of knowledge and information exchange. Presentation of results will take place at the annual GfE conference, the Forum of Applied Research in Fulda, or the meetings of the VDLUFA, which can be used as a platform to initiate the implementation of first insights into practice promptly. The continuous and timely publication of research results will be strengthened by this website, a GrainUp newsletter and the distribution of posters and flyers at trade shows.

Results and findings on the importance of grain processing (food technology) for the nutritional value and thereafter effects (e.g., animal health) are important decision guidance for the compound feed industry and farmers when respective investments are planned. Not least the aspects of technology and energy for the grain processing and food preparation are likely to deliver facts, figures and arguments in current political discussions (CO2 footprint).
